Current issue – 2011/2554 – Number 90

The latest issue of the FSN is now available as a PDF download (8 Mb) here.

For those of you with slow download speeds who find the above file too large, it is available to download page by page, in much smaller files, here*.

Backissues of the newsletter can be found here.

The Forest Sangha Newsletter is now published about once a year. The last issue (no. 89) was published in January 2010. The present issue (no. 90) was published in April 2011, and the next edition will likely be published towards the end of this year.

Problems posting and emailing this year’s newsletter

There seem to be several determined gremlins interested in the FSN. Though finished in April, the printer experienced difficulties this year which resulted in a five or six week delay before we could post them out to those of you on our postal mailing list. In addition to this, due to irregularities in our postal mailing list database, and further data loss affecting our emailing list, we regret that some of you who may have asked to be on these lists may not have received your newsletter or email. Please accept our apologies for this – and don’t hesitate to sign up again in the usual way, as per instructions below. We hope to streamline and stabilize our records system when we redesign the site this summer. Thank you again for your patience!

This website

As you may have noticed, this website has for some time been waiting for rejuvenation. Please accept our apologies for the broken links and the clumsiness encountered when trying to navigate it. During 2011 we plan to refresh the Amaravati website, and a redesign of the Forest Sangha Newsletter website will be included in that effort. Thank you for your patience.

*We regret that HTML (website formatted) versions of the present and last issues are unavailable. We plan to resume posting future FSN articles on this website, to read or print without having to download anything, once the site is redesigned.

Two Newsletters produced at Amaravati

Please note that there are now two newsletters currently produced at Amaravati – when asking to be put on ‘the newsletter’ mailing list, please specify which one you mean (or both). Thank you!

Forest Sangha Newsletter

The Forest Sangha Newsletter represents the monasteries inspired by Luang Por Sumedho, with an emphasis on those in Britain. It is currently published about once a year. To receive each issue by post, or to receive an email notification when it becomes available on this website, please request to be put on to

  • the Forest Sangha Newsletter postal mailing list

or to

  • the Forest Sangha Newsletter emailing list

by either emailing fsn-mailer (at) amaravati (dot) org or by writing to Forest Sangha Newsletter, Amaravati Monastery, Great Gaddesden, HERTS, HP1 3BZ, UK

Looking Ahead (Amaravati News)

Amaravati now produces its own small newsletter (as do the other monasteries – see www.forestsangha.org for monastery newsletters) called Looking Ahead. It contains some news and announcements, an events calendar and the Retreat Centre schedule (in addition to the Retreat Centre website, the autumn edition of Looking Ahead is where the next year’s retreat schedule is first published). The current issue is always available (and sometimes updated) on the Amaravati website.

To receive Looking Ahead by email (recommended) or by post, please request to be put on to

  • the Looking Ahead Newsletter emailing list

or to

  • the Looking Ahead postal mailing list

by either emailing abmnews (at) amaravati (dot) org or by writing to Looking Ahead, Amaravati Monastery, Great Gaddesden, HERTS, HP1 3BZ, UK
